Fusion Bond Epoxy [FBE] has been the predominate choice for exterior coating of Steel Pipelines in the United States. The draw backs are high energy consumption during plant application, and difficult and sometimes impossible coating of girth welds in the field with FBE, during laying of pipeline.

100% Solids Polyurethanes are now used to coat girth welds for FBE coated pipeline systems extensively, and the Polyurethanes are gaining a foothold in actual coating of the Steel Pipe Systems themselves, whether in plant or in field.

The Utilithane® Biobased 100% Solids Polyurethane meets or exceeds the present Polyurethane Coatings being used for Steel Pipeline applications. The ease of application, and user friendly attributes of Utilithane Biobased, will open the door for Biobased product use in this heavy industry.
